Troubleshooting
Something Wrong With Your Mushroom Grow?
Start with what you can observe. A quiet grow or an imperfect-looking one is not automatically a failed grow, and the answer is rarely to change every condition at once. Describe what you are seeing below, and the right guide is one or two clicks away.
If a jar, bag, or container has clearly abnormal powdery growth, wet slime, leaking contents, or a foreign growth that is spreading unusually fast: keep it closed, isolate it, do not deliberately smell it, and use the contamination guide.
What are you seeing?
Troubleshoot by growing method
The same symptom can mean different things depending on how you are growing.
Before you change anything
A short checklist that answers most troubleshooting questions before they become guesses.
- Identify the species, strain, and method you are growing
- Record the inoculation date so timelines have context
- Take a clear photo through the closed container when possible
- Compare what you see with your supplier’s guidance
- Change one variable at a time
- Write down what changed and when
When supplier guidance for your exact species, strain, or kit differs from a general guide—including this one—the supplier’s guidance takes priority.
